Nearby there is the Alpine Loop and Silver Thread Scenic and Historic Byways. A favorite of hikers are the five "Fourteeners", which are among Colorado's highest mountains over 14,000 feet. Lake San Cristobal, a great place for fishing, is the second largest natural lake in Colorado and is an easy drive only three miles south of Lake City.
